Deep Focus: Superman Returns (Press Play) →
I have a complicated relationship with the Superman film canon in general and Returns specifically, but this video essay by Ken Cancelosi and Matt Zoller Seitz* lends a detailed, analytical eye to the often dismissed film. There’s a lot to this interpretation that I don’t necessarily agree with**, but the depth and sincerity of the analysis makes this worth a watch if you, like me, sometimes still find yourself thinking about this movie.

** For instance, I think that the film’s reliance on the Reeves films and ignorance of the rest of the Superman canon is a major fault rather than a strength.
